WHAT IS THE IELTS EXAM?
The IELTS exam is an exam which tests your knowledge of the English language. It stands for International English Language Testing System. This test is taken by those people who want to pursue their education, work or migrate to a country where English language is the major source of communication. The test is known to be one of the most widely considered tests in a lot of countries and is a gateway to study, work and live abroad.
WHAT IS THE EXAM PATTERN?
The exam pattern for IELTS is quite simple as it has four sections which test your proficiency in the English language in reading, writing, speaking and listening. There are two types of IELTS tests, that is, IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training Test. As you can guess, the one that has Academic as a suffix is the one you will need to qualify to study abroad. The exam pattern is as follows :
- Reading Section - 40 Questions, 3 Parts and 20 minutes for each part.
- Writing Section - 2 Assignments with 60 minutes of time.
- Listening Section - 40 Questions, 4 tasks, 30 minutes
- Speaking Section - 3 sections, 10-11 minutes for each section.
- Total Duration - 3 hours.
- Band - 0 to 9. 1 is the lowest band and 9 is the highest band.
The speaking section of the test is taken on a different day either before or after the previous three sections have been completed.
WHAT IS THE SELECTION CRITERIA?
In order to qualify for a college in a foreign soil, you would need to have a respectable band score of at least 7 and anything above that will be considered good for you. The better your band score is, the better chance you will have at getting the college or university of your choice.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CLEAR THE EXAM?
When you have scored a decent band, then you become eligible to apply for the visa of the country that you want to study, work or live in. The only condition that stands thereafter is that you have all the required documents which are essential to complete the visa application process. Once you have submitted your documents and your visa application, all you have to do is to wait till it gets accepted. After your visa application is approved, you can fly away to the foreign land of your choice and live your dream life.
